I was an apprentice with the well known and well respected carpet fitter Kevin Allen. He was NICF master fitter from 1981 to 1990. I served my time with him for nearly 5 years, learning many skills involved to become a successful carpet fitter. We specialised in domestic carpet and vinyl fitting. When I finished my apprenticeship I took my skills and started out as a self-employed floor layer, this is where my career has taken me. Carpet Right Plc, Horsepath Driftway, Oxford. Domestic Carpet & Vinyl Fitting. 2004 – 2007. This role was to undertake full fitting of carpet & vinyl, any flooring preparation, underlay & gripper, ply-boarding, hard-boarding and screeding; this job involved the following requirements: Good communication skills Respectful attitude Excellent customer services Quality reliable service on all jobs. Vineys & Lee Longlands carpet and furniture distribution. Fairacres Retail Park, Abingdon. Domestic Carpet Fitting/Estimating & Scotch Guarding services 2004 – 2007. This job was to deliver a prompt quotation/estimation service, measuring houses the most economical way. Ordering the carpets to suit, Scotch guarding prior to fitting date, then fitting the products to Vineys & Lee Longlands high standards. Job requirements: Excellent punctuality Communication skills Good planning and measuring skill Ordering products & liaising with suppliers Thomas Cleary & Sons Domestic & Industrial flooring. Southmoor, Oxfordshire 2007 – mid 2008 This was a position as a sub-contractor, working with all types of flooring from wool carpets to karndean knight tiles. Also had the opportunity to work in one of Oxfords best colleges, Magdalen College. Replacing all floor covering in a section of the hall of residents. Job requirements: Ability to work under a tight schedule Resolving problems quickly & efficiently if they arose Working as part as a team To help train a new carpet fitter Communicate with other trades Lots of travelling Radley College Radley Village, Abingdon, Oxfordshire 2004 – Summer 2009. All types of flooring works. This was continuous work over 6 summers, complete restoration of sub-floors, re-placement flooring to match existing floors. I learnt many new skills at this prestigious college and widened my floor laying capabilities substantially. Every day was a learning curve: Huge stock room control Refurbishment of old sub-flooring & oak floor boarding Ply & hard boarding Latexing (spike roller technique) Domestic carpet & vinyl fitting Full stick down (impervious backing) Picasso luxury vinyl tiles and planks with feature strips Flotex border and pattern work Cap & cove safety flooring Fitting of aluminium & u-PVC stair nosings. Oxford Interiors The Parade, Botley, Oxford 2008 – 2009. Carpet Fitting. I done a small amount of work for this shop, I would help out if the work load got too much for the fitters they employed. Carried small works Professional attitude needed Expert services required at all times too uphold there top quality reputation. Designer Contracts Corby, Leicestershire 2009 – to date. Construction site Carpet &Vinyl Fitters. This job is at the other end of the scale, fitting carpets on working building sites, the rules and regulations are much different than the retail side of the flooring industry. They mainly deal with David Wilson sites all over the country. Job requirements: Fitting tests to see if work was up to standards Health and safety tests to acquire cs/cs card. Strict rules on safety wear, safety boots, hi-vis vest, hard hat. Working in brand new houses Leave property ready for customer to move in Adhering to all of these rules at all times. I have my own van and am willing to travel. I also have public liability insurance cover of ?2,000,000, which will cover all types of work that I carry out. Can be adjusted if needed.
